the story so far.
Jack paced aimlessly back and forth across his cell, kicking the wall each time he reached the black stone walls. He'd been here for a month or two, and it was starting to wear on him. The soggy gruel they fed him tasted like nothing and the water was bitter. Yet he never gave a thought as to why he was put in here. Sure he had committed horrible acts of treason against queen and country, but honestly, he didn't care.
meanwhile, and slightly above; Ezmerelda snuck past the sleeping guard and into the jail, closing the large wooden door behind her. She knelt down, against the wall, remaining unseen by the guards downstairs. She pulled a small, cloth doll out from underneath her belt and held her hand over it, beginning to concentrate. Her eyes, now closed, were solid black when she opened them again, and suddenly a loud swarming sound began to form. She continued to concentrate....
"And a one and a two and a three!" Jack did a magnificent pirouette in the middle of his cell and kicked the bars as hard as he could. the rattle echoed through the cavernous prison. it was a moment before the guard would come by, but Jack could wait.
As the buzzing noise reached its limit, a swarm of bugs appeared from around the corner, spiting and racing towards two of the three guards int he room. They surrounded them and flew around wildly, biting at their clothing and even skin.
Jack waited for the guard to come. he heard some clatters and some choking above, but that wasn't too out of place, someone probably had played a very bad practical joke on jared the hapless janitor.
"oi! whats the problem" came the shout from the staircase, just as jack raised his foot to bang on the bars again.
"nothing. I was just wondering if you had any more iced tea, the last batch was lovely" said Jack aimlessly
Ezmerelda began to walk slowly down the stairs, holding the doll with her other hand over it. She reached the bottom and slowly moved her hand towards one of the men, as the swarm was begining to die down and leave. Suddenly, a giant flame leapt up around the man, causing him to scream in pain. As soon as this had happened, Ezmerelda's eyes returned totheir normal color. She stepped backwards and fell back against the wall, having used too much of her energy on the last bit of voodoo. She wait, concentrating her energy for the other soldier.
The guard chuckled nastily as the crashes and sounds escalated above. "you know we've been 'avin a lo-a trouble from ye" the guard paced forward. his bayonet dragging lazily across the ground. "Would be a shame if we had to send you to the gallows early... ay? pirate?" Jack laughed as loud as he could then suddenly stopped. "mate. I wouldn't go any further." jack said breezily. "Why?" the guard asked with a laugh. jack retorted quickly "because above our heads is somone you dont want to meet... CALYPSO!!!! GODDESS OF THE BLEEDIN SEA, little bugger-AND I DON'T THINK SHE'LL BE HAPPY TO SEE A LITTLE navy... scumbag LIKE YOURSELF hanging around down here would she?"
Ezmerelda, kept her eyes closed until she heard the quick pace of footsteps coming towards her. She stood up, opened her eyes, and held out the small doll in front of her. The guard got around the corner to where she was, just feet in front of her, and stopped, not expecting to see a small teenage girl, simply staring at him with a doll in her hand. "What's this?" the navy asked, in more shock than anything. Ezmerelda smirked before muttering one word. "Suffication..." the she grabbed the dolls neck with her other hand, and began to squeeze as hard as she could. The guard suddenly grabbed his neck and began to fall to his knees slowly, gasping for air that could not find his lungs.
The guard was starting to look worried. The man had been quite sane up till now. "your barking." he said stiffly.
Jack threw back his head and laughed as loud as he could, then brought his head sharply back and made a hissing "SHH!" the guard cocked a puzzled eyebrow at the lunatic now shifting his eyes upward. "Hear that?" jack whispered, "thats her mystical powers. She's STRANGLING your mates... Soon their heads are gonna POP!" he made a little sound with his lips, "one bye one." he finished with a demonic grin.
Ezmerelda let go of the doll once the man was unconcious. He'd live to see another day. Maybe she would even have people who feared her! "Delightful!" She muttered, rounding the corner. It was then that she saw the pile of ash that had once been a solider. "You... on the other hand... won't see the sun again." She stepped over the large pile and headed down the hallway, towards the second staircase, when a third soldier made her stop dead in her tracks. He had his rifle pointed straight at her, shaking in his boots like any man would after seeing someone spontaneously combust in front of them. "Put down the doll, witch!" he yelled. Ezmerelda slowly lowered her self, then placed the doll gently on the ground. She didn't know what to do now. come one jack! she thought.
The guard turned sharply at the yell of "WITCH" from above, and Jack, just as suprised as the guard pulled the fork he had been concealing in his sleeve smoothly out. His free hand lanced out from the bars, grabbed the hapless guard by the collar and yanked him Backwards. Jacks mad grin vanished as he pulled the fork into a more comfortable position at the guards neck. "unlock the cell... NOW." jack said sharply. "and drop the bloody gun." the guard quivered, and jack felt the eyes of all the prison floor on him as the guard dropped the rifle and slid the key into the lock. Jack grinned. And bashed the guards head against the bars. Jack slid neatly from the cell and composed himself. HE COULD BLOODY MOVE AGAIN! He plucked the keys from the cell door and swooped down to grab the bayonet now lying on the ground. He smiled recklessly as the other prisoners began to cheer. Jack winked and banged the bayonet against the ground and putting on a passable imitation of the now unconscious guard, yelled loudly "WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE TROUBLE?" at once the other prisoners fell silent and jack slyly tossed the keys into the nearest cell.
Ezmerelda looked towards the stairs, as banging was suddenly heard downstairs. The guard looked back, and just as he did, not being able to think of anything else, Ezmerelda stomped on the voodoo doll as hard as she could. The guard grunted with pain, almost dropping his gun from the suprize, but manage to get off a shot at the fleeing Ezmerelda. She raced towards one of the tables against the wall, getting to it and flipping it over, just as a bullet grazed her shoulder. She let out a scream and quickly dropped behind the table, knowing good and well that any bullet could break through it. She had left her voodoo doll on the ground though, and was helpless until she could think of something else. She grabbed her shoulder, more from frustration than pain.
Now what the bloody hell was going on above. He heard a scream. Sounded like it had come from a woman. Jack decided he had waited too long. As the prisoners freed each other, jack crept quietly up the stairs. BANG! there was a gunshot and jack slammed himself against the wall. Another scream. Jack slithered up the stairs and took in the situation in less than a second. A guard was firing on a woman behind a table. But that guard wasn't just a guard! It was a navy officer, the tassels on his shoulders indicated as much. and that meant... Jack reared from the stairs, like a snake pouncing on its unsuspecting prey. and pressed the bayonet against the mans head. "Don't move." he said flatly, glad he could talk in normal tones again. "you know what to do. Drop the gun. step away from the wench. and get on ye knees. You're gettin us a ship." the guard whimpered. "who are you?" he said fearfully. "Gunfish... mate. Soon to be captain." Jack said, following the mans neck with the bayonet as he huddled against the floor. "Yeah!?" the navyman said, piping up a tiny bit of courage, "you and what crew?" Jack smiled. "OI! jack barked down the stairs, you ungrateful lot, get up here."
Ezmerelda heard a commotion behind her, but dared not put anything in the officer's line of fire to see what it was. It wasn't until she heard Jack's voice that she actualy poke her head around the table to look. She could barely contain her excitement. "Jack!" she shouted, running up to hug him. She leapt on him in a hug, not caring about the navy he was holding down at the moment, then stood back up. She looked down at the officer now, and gave him a swift kick in the jaw. His head snapped back like a dummy. "And that's for shooting me!" She walked over, stomping almost like a child, picked up her doll, then headed back over to Jack. "So... what's the plan?"
Jack stared at the woman now inches away from him. "Who the bloody hell are you?" he asked with the air of a bored child. He snatched the little doll she was carrying from her hand and tossed it aimlessly around before throwing it out the door.
"It's me!" Ezmerelda shouted, looking at the door where he had just thrown his doll. "Ezmerelda!" Still confused, judgingby the look on the man's face. It was then that she realized just how long it had been since he'd seen her. He looked pretty much the same, but she had probably changed a good bit in the last few years. "Ezze..." she muttered, hoping he'd remember. Then, she did something she hoped she'd never have to do. After rolling her eyes, she hunched over, held up her hands, and made her best puppy face, trying to immitate the face she had made the day he left. This had BETTER work! She thought
Jack blinked at the girl. Whithin an instant his eyes narrowed and his puzzled playfulness turned to anger. "Bitch. Why are you here? YOU'RE THE BLEEDIN REASON I'M IN THIS STINKY HELHOLE!" Jack stomped his boot firmly on the back of the navyman and swung the rifle up to the girls face. His expression did not change as the prisoners he had freed thundered up the stairs with equipment raided from the downstairs barracks. "someone clap her in irons. The fat one too." He said giving a little shove to the navyman under his boot. The pirates obeyed mindlessly as the nearest two grabbed the girl and the nearest pair of cuffs. "Sir. em... Whats be yer name sir?" said a younger one of jacks new crew as his mates scurried around. "Lysander." Dont you forget it ye ingrates. yer my crew now."
Ezmerelda just went along dumbfounded as the prisoners through her in a cell. What was going on? What did he meen she had been the reason he was in there? Was there something she had been to young to remember? Her face suddenly changed from puzzelment to anger. She lifted her hand and began to dig through her hair for something. It wasn't like anyone would notice her, their eyes all fixed on jack. In what seemed like no time at all, she had unlocked her cell door, slipped back up to the floor, jack and his men already being gone, and grabbed her doll that he had thrown through the door. The least he could have done was be thankful. She definately wouldn't be helping him again for a while.
Jack strode mightily along the docks. his old gear fastened firmly to his sides and his signature long Navy coat with the singed edges and the flaming skull in the center were bright in the sunlight. He grinned as he drew his foreign sword and let the ringing blade rest easily on his shoulder. The docks were alive withe people and those with the brains to realize what was going on were scampering away or barricading themselves. He tossed his brown hair aside and reminded himself that once again, he was going to need a razor as his beard flopped with it. "You!" jack barked at the young sailor again, "bring that girl with us, she might be useful. Rest of you, come with me." his eyes flashed emerald in the magnificent light. "We have a ship with our name on it."
Ezmerelda stomped to the door of the jail, ready to get out. She tucked her doll into her belt, to keep it hidden, just incase anything happened. She got out of the door, and stopped, hearing someone coming towards. She got down behind the barrel beside the door, as a boy ran into the jail. "not good..." she pulled out her doll once more, not sure what to do, until the boy came out the door yelling. Her eyes widened as she pushed a finger to the doll's mouth, shutting the boy up. The boy was yelling as loud as he could, but his mouth wouldn't open! he backed against the wall, tears streaming down his face. Jack had been right! this had to be calypso! Ezmerelda kept her finger on the doll, searching around her for a stone, then finding one, she clapsed it tightly, aimed, and launched it at the boys head. BAM! Right in the back of his skull. The kid hit the ground, knocked out just like that. Ezmerelda whiped her brow and headed off in the opposite direction from the docks. She needed a plan now....
Tralone: "a-and I really really really need to get it back, so please... sir I'm beggin ye, let me back on board?" The navyman whimpered as pathetically as he could. "alright-alright, go!" said the guard wearily. "th-thank you!" said the navyman as he scampered on deck of the sloop and with the most regret he could muster, slammed the guards head in with the rock he had been carrying. The guard fell with a clump. and the navyman added a contemptuous kick to the guards injuries. Jack would probably never know this, absorbed as he was with the ship, but the guard had been having an affair with the navymans wife. The newly freed crew crept aboard the sloop and set about "dispatching" any other men from the navy. excluding the navymen they had captured of course, who the crew had taken a liking to.
Ezmerelda stopped halfway to the town's blacksmith, realizing that getting closer, would be better than getting away. She headed back towards the ship then, starting at a run, but walking once she got back in site. She had all the time she needed. Besides, getting seen was her objective.
Jack grimaced as he wiped the blood from his coat. "Is that all of them? he asked, shoving his sword into the wooden deck and wiping the red smears off the dark black longcoat gingerly. "Aye sir," said the crews newly appointed first mate, Harrow Han. Jack picked up his sword and waited for a moment before saying "dump their bodies overboard And lets be off!"
She got closer to the ship, close enough that anyone on board should be able to see her if looking. She pulled her self up onto the dock, and headed straight for the deck, one of the men meeting her right at the entrance. He opened his mouth to yell something, but Ezmeralda put a finger up to his lips. "Shhh sh shh! I just want to see jack... think you could take me to him?" she asked the crew mate
Jack heard his little sisters voice a mile away. He slunk up the stairs quietly and before the hapless deckahand could even answer, jack had poked the teenager on the shoulder and said sourly. "Go back to mummy you little brat and stay out of this." Ezmerelda turned to face jack. She had been pissed off to her limit now.
"Listen bub!" She shouted, suprizing her self that she could conjure up such a voice. "I don't know how long you've been in there! And i don't know why, or even if it was my fault, like you say. But i do know this! If it weren't for me, you would still BE in there! Now the least you can do is hear me out!" She stopped then, waiting for a reply, her breathing heavy just from the anger and shouting.
Jack blinked at his sisters furious onslaught. "First of all, it was only a matter of time before I got out of there, you just sped it up," jack stroked his beard, trying not to grin. "second of all, I was in there for 9 months, and you my darling little sister should do what I say and go back home-you, get me a razor- anyways. We have a ship to steal and you're in the way."
Ezmerelda's look of anger wiped away, then changed to a smirk. "Fine..." she said, turning and walking back off the ship. "I'll leave..." She waited till she was a good distance away from jack before turning back and shouting. "I just hope the Govenor doesn't mind so much when i tell him his ship is being stolen!" She turned back, and evil smile on her face, and picked up her pace a little.
Jack laughed, "you can tell him Jack gunfish sent ye. He'll be happy to hear it!"
"I'm sure he will." Ezmerelda laughed back. "Along with being happy that the one person who know's where "Jack Gunfish" will go, has come to help him..." She left it at that, knowing full and well that Jack knew she was right.
Jack faded a little inside, and his smile vanished like a puff of smoke on the wind. "And I'm sure the governor of this little speck of an island in the middle of nowhere is going to go to bloody Tartarus and back"
Ezmerelda turned back at this. "Trust me jack... he wont have to..." She didn't know exactly what she meant by that, but at least he wouldn't either. She was good at lying. That and only one other thing. "My offer still stands though!" She shouted, now at the edge of the dock. "Take me with you, and your only worry, will be me killing the enemies before you can touch them!"
Jack laughed again at his sisters comment. then muttered lightly to Han "cast off." The man nodded and quickly yelled the command to the rest of the crew. As the men scurried about, jack walked towards the land and grinned at his sister. "sorry little one, but this party is just for grown ups."
"Oh... darn" Ezmerelda said, carefully watching the crew getting ready to cast off. She carefully grabbed the doll underneath her belt, keeping her hands behind her back as she did. Her eyes stayed fixed on her brother. "Well then..." She said, aiming her finger just right. She got ready, then flicked the doll's crotch as hard as she could. "I guess that rules you out too!" She said, smiling, as Jack bent foward in pain. She turned and started to walk off once again. "Better hurry and catch your ship!" she shouted, as the ship started to pull away and leave him. "Wouldn't wanna miss the adventure of a life time... now would ya?"
9:56:48 PM Tralone: Jack doubled over in pain, torn between shooting his little sister and catching his ship. He decided to do both. With one hand he snagged a rope from the sails and with the other, he hefted his rifle and aimed it at his little sister. "BITCH!" he shot. Missed. And threw the bayonet at her as hard as he could. It fell short. Jack cursed furiously and swung on board the ship as it pulled away from the docks.
10:00:19 PM tetheas: Ezmerelda smiled, knowing both his attempts at harming her had failed. Oh, but she'd just begun to harm her. He'd learn soon enough, that guns and sword could do no good against magic... and now she was off to plan...
